Complete Program for the Gifted

MindMenders Summer Camp and yearly sessions offer a complete program for the gifted child. No other cognitive or "tutoring" program has such an extensive program for the gifted child. There are many gifted kids who make good grades but who work too hard to maintain those grades.
How do we help gifted kids who are being successful in school? What type of gifted kid would benefit from the MindMenders Program? Here are a couple of examples:
(1) A gifted high school student with ADHD took Honors and AP English classes in high school earning B's, yet he never read a single novel or book. He had awesome auditory memory and simply listened to class discussion, remembered everything discussed, and then used the information to make good grades on tests or written assignments. It is not that he was unable to read. He did not like to read because he suffered eye strain caused by weak eye muscles. The first book he ever read in its entirety was when he was 20 years old and in college. He called me one day, so excited, because he had just finished reading an entire book. The topic of the book was ADHD.
(2) An 18-year-old client a few years ago received a full scholarship to MIT. At the end of the first semester he had a nervous breakdown and was given medical leave to come home for treatment. Why did he have a nervous breakdown? He was so smart that even though he attended an accelerated, prestigious college prep high school, he was rarely challenged and never learned how to study. MIT was definitely challenging, but because he did not know how to study he did not receive any credit for his first semester in college.
(3) There are many students who make A’s and B’s in school, but they have to work very hard to maintain those kinds of grades. They are the unidentified gifted students who have reading issues, memory problems, a few cognitive issues in a predominantly gifted brain, or even undiagnosed neurological problems that keep them from utilizing their gifted brain to its fullest.
